netFIELD Edge – Hilscher Edge Gateways

netFIELD Edge comprises devices of various performance classes that serve as intelligent data routers between the operational (OT) and information technology (IT) levels of automated systems. With the help of freely loadable software embedded in containers, the devices independently aggregate, process or transmit IIoT information parallel to established production and control processes.

A cyber-secure Linux OS that meets the requirements of IEC 62443, a web configuration interface and two independently operating container engines form the basis of the devices. Optionally, each device and the second container engine can be managed centrally via a platform. The orchestration of all components is reduced to simple clicks in the user interface and allows each decentralized and edge-supported IIoT project to be administered throughout its life cycle.

OT connectivity by netX

A particular highlight of the devices is their OT connectivity to industrial networks such as PROFINET, EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP or IO-Link. This is made possible by the integration of Hilscher's netX multi-protocol processors. This unique combination of netX and CPU computing power is suitable for the operation of all types of IIoT applications in industry: the user decides flexibly whether, for example, data mining software runs directly on the devices or the data intelligence is outsourced to any cloud in forwarding scenarios.

Conclusion:

The aim of the data logics is to identify patterns and relationships in process flows and implement optimization measures to increase efficiency. The localization of anomalies, for example, is one such measure. The mapping of a digital twin and the implementation of downstream predictive maintenance and condition monitoring solutions are also typical scenarios. These can be managed with netFIELD Edge in the shortest possible time and with minimal effort.
