The gateway links a subordinate SmartWire-DT network to any EtherCAT Master. Each SmartWire-DT station represents a single EtherCAT slave and is mapped with its process data modularly in slots. The device can transmit, exchange, and convert 1000 bytes of I/O data transparently between both networks. All 99 SmartWire-DT stations are supported.
The gateway is commissioned with the configuration button at the front of the device. By pressing the button, the SmartWire-DT topology read will be stored in the gateway. The EtherCAT master automatically reads out this configuration via EtherCAT maps the configuration in the engineering tool in compliance with the ESI device description file.
Parameters of the SmartWire-DT stations can be modified as EtherCAT objects. During the EtherCAT startup phase, the parameters are transferred to the gateway, then to the SmartWire-DT stations.
SWD-Assist (Eaton’s planning and ordering tool) can be used optionally. It helps dimension the SmartWire-DT trunk and carries out further diagnosis via the gateway in case of an error. SWD-Assist is not included within the delivery of the gateway. You can download the software free of charge at www.hilscher.com or order it at cost price as a DVD with a USB cable.
