New evaluation board for 10 Mbit SPE solutions

Hattersheim, 25. Feb. 2025 – Hilscher Gesellschaft für Systemautomation has added a new evaluation board to its single-pair Ethernet (SPE) technology portfolio. The NXEB-90-SPE board is based on Hilscher's multiprotocol-capable device controller netX 90 and offers users and developers numerous options for developing and evaluating industrial applications with SPE.
The NXEB-90-SPE is equipped with an IEC-63171-6 SPE port and can be connected via the 10BASE-T1L standard to PROFINET as well as to EtherNet/IP networks as a single-port device. Other features include:

• Capacitive coupled analog 10BASE-T1L front end with RXN/P and TXN/P header for test purposes
• 8 Mbyte SDRAM and 4 Mbyte SQI Flash onboard
• Debugging via on-board USB debugger or external JTAG adapter
• 8 user-defined inputs and outputs
• UART interface via RS232 adapter or on-board USB with virtual COM port
• Alternative boot and console mode selectable

The SPE evaluation board complements the release of the new SPE media switch, which Hilscher presented at SPS 2024. The SPE Media Switch is also based on Hilscher's multi-protocol netX 90 communication controller and can seamlessly connect SPE applications to PROFINET, Open Modbus/TCP and EtherNet/IP networks. The device is ready-to-use and easy to implement, allowing users to deploy SPE in the field at low cost.
