Hilscher Italia Celebrates 25 years of Industrial Communication in Italy
Vimodrone, 28 May 2026 – Hilscher Italia has celebrated its 25th anniversary. Since the opening of Hilscher’s first international subsidiary in Italy in 2001, the company has supported machine builders, system integrators, and industrial automation companies with industrial communication solutions for fieldbus, Industrial Ethernet, IIoT, and edge applications.
Hilscher Italia has marked the anniversary together with customers and partners at SPS Italia 2026 in Parma, where the company also presented new IIoT and cybersecurity solutions, including the netFIELD Design-In service.
Hilscher’s first international subsidiary
In 2001, Hilscher Gesellschaft für Systemautomation mbH opened its first international subsidiary in Italy. The Italian market already played an important role in European manufacturing and automation at that time. Local Italian Machine builders and industrial companies – often family run, but with a strong export orientation – increasingly required reliable industrial communication for internationally connected production environments.
Since then, Hilscher Italia S.r.l., headquartered in Vimodrone near Milan, has supported customers across multiple generations of industrial automation technology. The company introduced solutions for serial fieldbus communication, Industrial Ethernet, Industry 4.0 applications, IIoT integration, edge computing, and cybersecurity. Over the past 25 years, Hilscher Italia has expanded its role from a local sales office to a technology partner supporting customers with consulting, integration support, and industrial communication expertise.
From fieldbus communication to IIoT and cybersecurity
Over the past 25 years, industrial communication requirements have changed significantly. One important milestone was the introduction of the netX communication platform. The technology enables different industrial communication protocols to run on a single hardware platform through firmware changes. Machine builders and device manufacturers benefit from reduced development effort, simplified product variants, and greater flexibility for international markets.
As Industry 4.0 requirements increased, industrial communication expanded beyond the integration of field devices and controllers. IT and OT systems increasingly needed to exchange data securely and reliably. Hilscher addressed these requirements with the netFIELD ecosystem for edge connectivity, device management, and industrial cloud integration.
New netFIELD Design-In service
In order to facilitate IIoT project for machine builders and plant operators, Hilscher Italia presented the latest addition to this portfolio at SPS Italia 2026: the netFIELD Design-In service. The service supports companies in Italy during the implementation of IIoT and projects at the edge – from system architecture and containerization to security updates and scalable deployment concepts. The offering helps machine builders and industrial companies integrate connected solutions into their existing automation environments more efficiently.
