More Sustainable Product Packaging: Hilscher Gradually Transitions Its Cartons

Hattersheim, 5 June 2026 – Hilscher Gesellschaft für Systemautomation mbH transitioned a large share of its product packaging to more environmentally friendly alternatives. The company announced this on International Environment Day. For Hilscher, the transition of its cartons is part of a continuous improvement process for sustainable industrial communication.

The goal is to design packaging in a more resource-efficient way while continuing to reliably meet requirements for product protection, quality, logistics, and delivery capability. Packaging for industrial communication products not only needs to save material but also protect sensitive components safely.

Transition largely complete

The transition has now been implemented for the majority of Hilscher’s product cartons. The company is using packaging with a higher recycled content than before. This step has already been completed for almost all product categories.
Only a small product segment in the PC card portfolio is still using older packaging. These cartons are currently also being replaced with more sustainable variants. In this way, Hilscher is consistently continuing the process already underway and combining resource conservation with the high requirements for safe and reliable product packaging.

World Environment Day highlights corporate responsibility

World Environment Day takes place every year on 5 June and serves as a reminder that environmental and climate protection happen on many levels: globally, politically, socially, and within companies. For businesses, this also means reviewing existing processes on a regular basis and improving them wherever concrete changes are possible. For Hilscher, the transition of its product cartons is one such step within its own area of responsibility.

“World Environment Day makes it clear that environmental and climate protection require many concrete contributions. For us, that also means critically reviewing existing elements, such as packaging, and improving them step by step. The transition of our cartons is a practical example of how we want to embed sustainability in our everyday business,” says Fabian Debus, Chief Operations Officer (COO) at Hilscher.

Hilscher does not view the packaging transition as a completed sustainability measure, but as one of many practical steps through which existing processes are reviewed and improved.

These measures also include:

  • replacing PU foam with recyclable PE foam in packaging
  • expanding power generation from renewable energy sources
  • investing in modernization of the building climate control system
  • promoting electric mobility and cycling
  • designing the Hilscher headquarters grounds in a more nature-oriented way, for example with an insect hotel
