Hilscher's comX 90 Communication Module Wins Product of the Year Award
Hattersheim, 14 April 2026 – Hilscher Gesellschaft für Systemautomation mbH has secured one of the top spots in Computer&Automation magazine’s annual Product of the Year ranking for the third time. This year, readers voted the new embedded communication module comX 90 into first place in the Communication & Networking category.
In total, more than 600 products were presented for the “Product of the Year” award. From these, the Computer&Automation editorial team selected the 96 most exciting new products and nominated them in 12 categories. These categories covered key industries and application areas, including:
- Drive technology
- Embedded computing
- Robotics
- Safety & security

comX 90 – Secure embedded communication in a compact form factor
With comX 90, introduced in late 2025, Hilscher has launched a new future-ready communication interface for industrial devices. The module combines high-performance multiprotocol communication, integrated security functions, and IIoT capability in a very compact design – while requiring minimal integration effort. The new comX 90 succeeds the proven comX 51 and is based on Hilscher’s netX-90 communication controller.
With comX 90, device manufacturers benefit from Hilscher’s many years of expertise in industrial communication. Based on netX technology, the module supports numerous industrial communication protocols as Device role (formerly Slave) using a single hardware platform. These include:

Protocol switching is performed via firmware updates, with Hilscher providing the corresponding protocol stacks. The comX 90 is also part of Hilscher’s platform promise for its proprietary netX technology, which the industrial communication specialist from Hattersheim am Main gives its customers. Hardware, software, tools, and support come from a single source – an important advantage for users who rely on long-term availability, investment protection, and efficient product development. The module is also CRA-ready by design, as the security requirements of the European Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) were taken into account for the comX 90 from the very beginning.
Hilscher honored for the third time
Hilscher received the coveted Product of the Year award for the first time back in 2021. At that time, the remote network interface AIFX-RE\M12 – designed to enable real-time Ethernet connectivity with M12 connectors for harsh industrial environments up to IP67 protection classes – was voted first place in the Communication & Networking category.
In 2022, the cifX M3042100BM PC card in the compact M.2 form factor took second place in the same category.
