NXBSP 500-LINUX

Linux Boards Support Package

The Linux Board Support Package (BSP) for netX is an adaptation of the Linux kernel to the Hilscher netX hardware. It contains the necessary enhancements to the standard kernel including basic drivers and a U-Boot based bootloader.
Main part of the BSP is the "Userland Configuration Tool" - PTXdist which is used to create the netX toolchain, kernel image and the root file system.
All parts are available in source code and distributed as "tar" archive files

The BSP uses Linux kernel 2.6.23-RT5 (including realtime pre-emption patches).

Toolchain
The complete toolchain is included in the BSP, containing the following cross compiler tools:

- gcc 4.1.2

- glibc 2.5

- gdb 6.5

U-Boot
The universal bootloader U-Boot is used to access the target platform and to start-up the kernel image. It is extended by netX specific initialization functions and hides the hardware dependencies from the Linux kernel.
The BSP includes the bootloader and the necessary enhancement for the netX hardware. Because of the hardware dependencies, the bootloader must be created separately for each target platform.
The netX bootloader is based on U-Boot 1.2.0.
