SERCOS III is a communication technolgy based on IEEE 802.3 and uses 100 MBit/s. The data is transferred determinic and collision free by means of a time slot method.

As topology ring and line structure is possible. If the master and the slaves are connected in a ring (exactly a double ring), then redundancy against cable break exists.

In opposite to standard Ethernet the frames are processed by the slaves when the frame passes through the slave. A slave inserts the data 'on the fly' into the telegram.

Any Ethernet frame can be transferred in the optional and configurable NRT channel.
SERCOS is used n particular in applications with precise and high synchronous processes. For synchronisation a synchronisation mark is used. On this all time based actions in the master and the slaves are synchronised.
